Homeopathy Tips for 8/24/10 Nash’s Regional Leaders
Eugene Beauharis (E.B.) Nash was born in Hillsdale, Columbia County, N. Y., on March 8th, 1838. He graduated from Cleveland Homoeopathic Medical College in 1874.
Dr. Nash practiced homeopathy in New York state until his death. He was, for seven years, Professor of Materia Medica in the New York Homoeopathic Medical College. In 1903 he became president of the International Hahnemannian Association (IHA). In 1905 he gave, by invitation, a course of lectures in the Homoeopathic Hospital of London.
Dr. Nash was considered one of the great teachers of homeopathic medicine. His book, “Regional Leaders” is a classic reference work as well as study guide. In it he has listed remedies and their main characteristic symptoms related to each region of the repertory. This book can be used to check on a remedy and its primary indications or keynotes related to the bodily region or associated section of the repertory.
Another useful part of this book is that the remedies are listed down the inside of each page and can be covered by a thin bookmark or strip of paper. This way the primary indication can be read and the remedy then can be guessed. This is a great learning tool that can help commit the common keynotes of many of the leading remedies in each of the listed chapter titles. These correspond to the different chapter titles of most repertories and the areas of the body including mind, modalities, generalities, etc.
When Nash was beginning his medical career he was stricken with paralysis. He took Lachesis, but it only helped a little. Discouraged, he put himself under the care of the great master, Dr. Lippe.
The venerable doctor gave him a remedy. “When you are cured, come back and then I’ll tell you what I gave.” Dr. Nash later returned to Philadelphia. “Here I am, entirely well now. What was it?”
“Lachesis, Lachesis!”
“Yes, but I took Lachesis!”
The old doctor jumped up and down in his delight, and laughing, said:
“You did not take it high enough.”
Many homoeopathic physicians in different parts of the world attributed their success in healing the sick to his writings. Students of homeopathy that want to really polish their core knowledge of many remedies can keep this book handy and study from it. If a physician knew all of the content in this book, he would have such a basic understanding of such a wide variety of remedies, he would end up being an excellent prescriber based on this knowledge alone. This book is available from B. Jain Publishers for a very small price. It is one of the better and least expensive books to spend time with.

What a wonderful case it is. I am a regular reader of Nash’s lectures and 40 years practice. He was a wonderful homeopath. Classical Homoeopathy can do wonders. But today because of interference of other medicines like allopathy it is difficult to get result out of patients. For example a patient is under treatment for Tuberculosis, he takes homeopathy but for fever he goes to the local allopath who by giving antiinflammatory, antibiotic medicines not only reduces the vitality of the patient but also spoils the case by interfering the progress of cure that is taking place in the patient.
I have heard many homeopathic practitioners advising patients to take Allopathic medicines for acute problems like fever, cough, headache, sleep problems etc., along with homeopathy, what kind of homoeopathy is this? and how can we expect a total cure under such circumstances?
Dr. Nash did not believe in relationship of the remedies. He mentioned it while describing the drug picture of some remedy in his book that he would not hesitate to give incompatibles like causticum after phosphorus if it is indicated.

Dear Dr Robert: Thank You, I have a dog-eared copy of E.B. Nash’s Leaders which I have read several times. In his “Preface to the Fourth Edition 1913” in the same book, he writes, “…To my good wife, who has done the clerical work under my dictation, is due much praise. This on account of my blindness”. What greater dedication than a Homeopath who gets his book written even when blind!!. Nash’s photo can be seen in the earlier homeoint web site. One of his contemporaries – C.M. Boger also wrote a great book “A synoptic Key of the Materia Medica”
In Nash’s first preface 1898, he writes about giving importance to both Symptomatology & Pathlogy, use of single remedy and minimum dose. He also praises the elder Lippe. Nash writes about some rare remedies – Crocus Sativa, Lapis Alb, Cuebeba etc but the book itself is very compact. His lecture on Glonoine and how he used it to convince homeopathic unbelievers is very well explained.
